Walking Fortress Roguelike Castle Come Announced for PC and Consoles

Castle Come

Indie developer lauflauf has Castle Come, a unique walking fortress roguelike, set to launch on PC and consoles. The game was revealed through a debut announcement trailer, showcasing its intriguing mechanics and captivating world. In Castle Come, you will traverse a mysterious land teeming with bandits, searching for new parts to upgrade your fortress, battling enemy fortresses, and scavenging their wreckage. The goal is to transform your humble fort into an unstoppable, deadly machine.

In Castle Come, combat transitions into a Tekken-inspired 2.5D fighting view, allowing for dynamic sidesteps, dodges, and rams. A standout feature is the stylish time-slowing mechanic that activates when you line up a shot from your arsenal, which includes machine guns, mine launchers, chicken pens, and giant boulders. You have the option to control every weapon yourself or delegate the task to your crew, balancing active reloads, cooldowns, and movement for optimal efficiency on the battlefield.

The game’s narrative unfolds in a world enclosed by imposing walls, with a legendary, mysterious gate offering the only path to freedom. This gate, guarded by sentient forces, allows passage only to the mightiest mecha-castles. Your journey through these gates involves exploring and gathering resources, discovering forges, villages, and tribes, and uncovering the secrets of who built these gates and why they have trapped you.

Thanks to its roguelike structure, Castle Come ensures that the wreckage of your previous fortress from failed runs can be found as overgrown ruins ripe for scavenging. The impact of your past actions reverberates into the future; a house you once protected might have evolved into a thriving village. Each run allows you to discover new weapons and modifiers, changing how you approach the construction of your ultimate fortress.

Sam Vonäsch, producer and designer at lauflauf, expressed his excitement about the announcement: “Our tiny two-person team is really excited to be able to announce ‘Castle Come’ to the world with our first trailer. We’re looking forward to sharing more about the game’s mechanics, our special take on narration, and its release date in the future.”

Castle Come promises a rich blend of strategic fortress building, engaging combat, and a world that evolves based on your actions. As you progress through this roguelike adventure, you will piece together the mystery of the gates and the history of the land, all while building a fortress capable of withstanding any challenge. With its unique concept and innovative gameplay, Castle Come is poised to captivate players when it launches on PC and console. A Steam page for the game is now live where you can add the game to your wishlist.
