Apparently Call of Duty Warzone will be upgraded for a release on next-gen consoles which are the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Warzone is currently one of the most popular battle royale games out there available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for free.
In a report by Charlie Intel, Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki told GamerGen that the studio has been planning this for quite some time and will release it on the next-gen consoles.
Infinity Ward has confirmed that fans who are looking at getting the PS5 and Xbox Series X this holiday will be able to still play Call of Duty: Warzone. Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director says that the studio will be working to update Call of Duty: Warzone in order to support the PS5 and Xbox Series X. He says that with their content plans for the future of Warzone, he’s ‘sure’ that it includes PS5 and Xbox Series X as part of that… ‘I know that our plan is Warzone is going to be around for quite some time, so as soon as those new systems are out and available I’m sure we’ll support them.
On the other hand, Kurosaki also confirmed in the interview that the studio has no plans on releasing Call of Duty Warzone on Google Stadia.
We’ve got no plans on porting it [Warzone] on Google Stadia at this time.
Upgrading Warzone to next-gen consoles comes as no surprise considering how good the free-to-play game is doing right now. Other games are also following this pattern, as Ubisoft has confirmed earlier this year of bringing Rainbow Six Siege on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at launch. This means that it is one of the first titles that we could be playing right after getting one of the new consoles.
It is unclear if Infinity Ward will make Warzone available at consol launch as well just like Rainbow Six Siege. We still need to hear more details about the upgrade and what Infinity Ward plans for the next-gen consoles.
