The last Winamp update was secretly leaked online last month. The updated version Winamp 5.8 beta had significant changes to the older update which came out last time in 2013. The update looked more like a fine tune of the software instead of a major overhaul. Moreover, with Windows 10 compatibility, Winamp 5.8 performed much better as it utilized various decoders, fixes, and optimizations.
Regarding the availability of the next update of Winamp, CEO Radionomy says,
There will be a completely new version next year, with the legacy of Winamp but a more complete listening experience. You can listen to the MP3s you may have at home, but also to the cloud, to podcasts, to streaming radio stations, to a playlist you perhaps have built
Winamp was previously available for Microsoft Windows, MacOs, and android. However, it is unclear if the next Winamp software will come on all or any one of the platforms mentioned above. CEO noted that there is quite good amount of community still use Winamp older versions and that a new version will be a fine addition to the existing users.
He mentioned that:
Winamp users really are everywhere. It’s a huge number. We have a really strong and important community. But everybody ‘knows’ that Winamp is dead, that we don’t work on it any more. This is not the case
