Publisher Ysbryd and developer Panstasz have announced the release date for its cosmic horror retro RPG WORLD OF HORROR. WORLD OF HORROR is releasing on PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch along with its PC 1.0 release via Steam, GOG, itch.io, and Microsoft Store. In WORLD OF HORROR, you will uncover the dark happenings of the seaside town of Shiokawa as eldritch gods awaken from their slumber yearning for the Earth’s destruction.

In WORLD OF HORROR, you will uncover mysteries to reveal the madness lurking in the air and hunt down ingredients to perform dark rituals in an attempt to delay the inevitable demise of humanity. On your journey, you will combat grotesque abominations in roguelite turn-based RPG, in a masterly crafted 1-bit universe created in Microsoft Paint. Set in 198X, the residents of Shiokawa are plagued by madness as the Old Gods have returned to quench their thirst for despair. The gameplay of WORLD OF HORROR revolves around you investigating the harrowing happenings, performing arcane rituals with scavenged artifacts in an attempt to delay the inevitable.
The game features 14 playable characters, each with their own stats and perspectives on the blight before them. You can unlock new characters to face the horrors with each playthrough and figure out different survival strategies that lean into each character’s strengths and compensate for their weaknesses. You will need to manage both health and sanity in the face of terrifying encounters, cruel curses, and unfathomable settings via procedurally generated events. The combat is a classic RPG turn-based combat with fists, kicks, or scavenged makeshift weapons found in each location.
You can also purchase new weapons and combat accessories to make combat easier for yourself. There are different shopkeepers and masked lunatics who will sell you useful stuff and you can also choose battle tactics for each scenario since every decision will lead to life, death, or madness. You will need to explore thoroughly to uncover clues, collect helpful trinkets, and more along the way to unlock the least harmful of multiple endings. There are 20 curated mysteries in the game giving you endless replayability. Additional modding tools are also part of the PC version of the game which will allow you to play custom mysteries created by other players.

WORLD OF HORROR is slated for release on October 19, 2023, on PC, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. It will be priced at $19.99 and will support English, French, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Polish at launch. It is currently available on PC in Early Access.
