Developer and publisher Saber Interactive has announced the launch of the new Extinction update for World War Z: Aftermath. The undead have returned in force with the launch of the Extinction update for World War Z: Aftermath, the acclaimed co-op zombie shooter. This free update is now available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
The latest update introduces a variety of exciting features, including new mutators for Challenge Mode, the addition of the expansive Arizona XL map to Challenge Horde Mode, enhanced heavy weapon skin customization options, and the premium Golden Bloom Weapon Skin Pack DLC. One of the highlights of this update is the introduction of the demanding Extinction Challenge Mode, which significantly ramps up the difficulty level. In this mode, you will face more aggressive zombies that are harder to defeat and can infect you on contact. Teamwork is crucial, as distinguishing between allies and foes becomes increasingly difficult, and you can only be respawned at specific checkpoints after being incapacitated.

Each week, the Extinction Challenge Mode will rotate through maps from different campaign episodes. Completing all maps from a single episode for the first time will earn you bonus rewards, including a heavy weapon skin, 350 blue coins, and 1,000 gold coins. This offers an additional incentive for you to hone your skills and tackle the challenging new gameplay.
Moreover, the update brings 13 new mutators to Challenge Horde Mode, enhancing the variety and difficulty of gameplay. Some notable mutators include “Grenadier,” where bomb-throwing enemies must be neutralized, and “Myopia,” which causes your vision to blur after aiming. Additionally, you will encounter “Plague Creatures” that introduce special zombies and poison clouds during waves and “Angry Turrets” that turn against both zombies and you at the start of a wave.
Each of the game’s eight classes now benefits from new advantages, raising health and damage by 50%. For those looking to customize their weaponry, the Golden Bloom Weapon Skin Pack DLC is now available for $4.99, featuring vibrant floral designs for a selection of weapons including the Geist 17MP pistol and the Paladin LMG rifle.
The Arizona XL map is exclusively playable on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S due to hardware limitations. World War Z: Aftermath Extinction update is now live on all platforms including PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, consoles including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
