Xbox Scarlett Is Not Going To Be The Last Console That Microsoft Makes

Microsoft is heading towards streaming with Project xCloud and we heard about a streaming-only console that might not be coming out now, but that has got fans wondering if Xbox Scarlett is going to be the last home console that Microsoft makes.

That does not seem to be the case from what we have heard. Microsoft has no plans to stop making consoles after the Xbox Scarlett. senior product marketing manager for Xbox Live Mark Skwarski confirmed this and mentioned the following regarding the matter:

We have been a console company ever since 2001 when we launched the very first Xbox with Halo. We’re going to continue being a console company. We’re going to continue to invest in a variety of different console hardware for different player preferences at different price points.

It seems that Microsoft is going to stick to home consoles and will make even more of them after the release of the Xbox Scarlett. So what does that mean for cloud? Cloud is the future and streaming is the way forward. Google Stadia might prove that when the service goes live later this year. Microsoft’s Project xCloud is a very similar platform.

Skwarski mentioned that developers will not need to optimize games for xCloud. He said that developers will need to make games for Xbox and the xCloud team will take care of the rest. He mentioned that the project is a long-term commitment.

This is going to be a long-term commitment for us. It’s going to be a multi-year journey.

People that tested xCloud at E3 mentioned that the streaming was great and there was no noticeable lag. We do not know what kind of internet speeds are required for the service and that is going to be one of the major concerns. We should be able to learn more about the internet requirements in the upcoming few weeks.
