Sega has announced that all current-gen digital purchases for Yakuza: Like a Dragon will upgrade to their next-gen version for free. The game will release a little early on November 10, 2020, on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, and PC. The PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will release next year on March 2, 2021, in the West. The PS4 version and Xbox One version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon game will upgrade to their next-gen versions whenever players upgrade to the next-gen.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon brings a brand-new adventure to the streets of Yokohama, Japan, where players will experience intense brawls, crushing drama, and over the top hilarity that the franchise is famous for. The game characters are voiced by a dynamic cast featuring George Takei, Kaiji Tang, Andrew Morgado, Greg Chun, and Elizabeth Maxwell. The game also introduces a new main protagonist Ichiban Kasuga.
Apart from the new lead character, Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also feature plenty of new features and improvements over the series. The combat system of the game is also getting an overhaul where the beat ‘em up formula is getting replaced with a more RPG-inspired turn-based combat system that will offer more realism and room for character development down the road. This is the first Yakuza title that will have turn-based combat instead of real-time combat.
With Yakuza: Like a Dragon, SEGA is taking a bold new direction for the franchise and is hoping that the fans would like the new formula as well. Yakuza has been pretty consistent with its core gameplay mechanics for all of its life and this is the first time that the developer is planning to change the tried-and-trusted mechanics.
