Zenless Zone Zero, the urban fantasy action RPG by Hoyoverse, is set to officially launch on July 4 across mobile devices, PC, and PS5. After four years of development, three closed beta tests, and numerous improvements, the producer of Zenless Zone Zero Zhenyu Li at HoYoverse shares the latest updates on the game.
Zenless Zone Zero immerses you in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious phenomenon called Hollows—abnormal spherical dimensions that appear out of nowhere and consume everything they touch—has devastated modern society. The last standing city, New Eridu, has emerged as a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. You step into the shoes of Proxy, a character accompanied by a diverse cast to navigate Hollows, battle adversaries, complete missions, and uncover the secrets of New Eridu.
Despite its bleak setting, Zenless Zone Zero is rich with engaging narratives and vibrant characters. You will encounter the odd-job agency Cunning Hares and the industrial giant Belobog Heavy Industries in the early chapters. The game progresses with the introduction of Officer Zhu Yuan in Chapter 2 Interlude and Chapter 3, along with the revealing true nature of Victoria Housekeeping members. Additionally, new characters Lucy and Piper from the Sons of Calydon faction in New Eridu’s outer ring are set to join as playable agents. You will also command newly designed Bangboos, companions with unique combat abilities.
The city of New Eridu itself offers a bustling and detailed environment for you to explore. Beyond the previously showcased Sixth Street, the global launch version will introduce Lumina Square, the commercial heart of New Eridu. Here, you can rescue adorable Bangboos, find hidden cargo trucks filled with rewards, and experience the lively cityscape. The legendary Proxy, Phaethon, has also expanded the video store Random Play’s second floor, providing a space for you to rest, play music, and customize photo walls to capture their journey’s memories.
Zenless Zone Zero features a dynamic combat system designed to cater to both newcomers and veteran action gamers. The game’s combat mechanics, including Chain Attacks, Perfect Assist, and character switching, allow for creative and fast-paced battles. Combat Commissions enable you to jump directly into the action, while challenges like Hollow Zero and Shiyu Defense offer opportunities to refine combat skills. You can access these challenges by finding the Scott Outpost, which overlooks the largest Hollow in New Eridu.
To celebrate the milestone of 40 million global sign-ups and the game’s official launch, HoYoverse has prepared generous in-game rewards. You can earn up to 1600 Polychromes, 90 Master Tapes, 20 Encrypted Master Tapes, and 85 Boopons by advancing in-game progress, participating in launch activities, and engaging in time-limited events such as Friendship Supervision and Watch Your Step.
