(Updated) Destiny 2 Crown Of Sorrow Raid – Gahlrans Deception (2nd Encounter)

Destiny 2 Crown of Sorrow Raid Gahlrans Deception

Destiny 2 Crown of Sorrow Raid is available now and if you are stuck at the second encounter in which you have to fight against Gahlrans Deception then here are the basic mechanics that should help you get through. Start the encounter by shooting or punching Gahlran’s Deception.

Contest Disables Power Advantage Over 720

During the first 24 hours of the Destiny 2 Crown of Sorrow Raid a special contest is active in which you get no power level advantage over a specific level. According to Bungie:

While Contest is active, players will face an enforced challenge throughout the Raid. This means, Power beyond certain levels will provide no advantage for a given fight (e.g., for the first fight all Power above 700 won’t provide an advantage, and for the final fight Power above 720 will not provide an advantage).

The Contest functionality will be disabled after the first 24 hours. So you will be able to take advantage of higher power levels after this initial period.

Three Platforms

There are three platforms around the room. You should divide into teams of two and go to each platform. The buff plate will appear on one of the platforms. Two players need to get the buff. Once the buff has been picked up two witches will appear and players without the buff need to kill them.

After that, a Blessed Ogre will appear. Like the previous encounter, players with the buff need to kill the ogre. One you have done all this the Witch’s Vassal will appear which can be used to switch the buff between players.

Each platform will get its own Witch’s Vassal one after the other.

The Witches Buff

In order to get the buff, you need to stand in the glowy circle on the floor. Remember that more than 3 people should not have the buff so that you can switch it with your team and destroy crystals.

Players with the buff can do additional damage and players with this buff should be the one that kills the ogres. The buff only lasts for a single minute.

To maintain the buff, you need to shoot the sphere just like like in the first encounter. Your teammates should be in the circle and shoot the sphere. Destroy the sphere before the buff wears off and it will transfer to other players on the team.

If you are split into three teams, 2 players for each platform then each pair should have their own sphere. That way in each sphere one person will have the buff the other and will not. So you know who is going to get the buff when it switches.

How To Kill The Shielded Ogres

Shielded Ogres of Blessed Ogres can only be killed by players that have the buff.

Destroy The Crystals

Crystals will appear on different platforms during the encounter. You will need to destroy the crystal quickly otherwise you will fail the encounter. You need to be inside the crystal bubble to destroy it. Both you and the teammate in your pair should be inside the bubble in order to destroy it. Remember that one person will have the buff while the other will not.

How To Take Down Gahlrans Deception Shield

Gahlrans Deception is immune inside the bubble but you can go inside the bubble and damage the deception to take down the shield. You only need a little damage to take down the shield but beware that the deception can melee you. Again one of you will need to have the buff while the other will not.

After you bring down the shield of Gahlrans Deception Gahlrans hand will turn Green and you have to shoot it. Doing that will make Gahlran slam his axe on the platform. Gahlran will kill the deception in the process.

After you take down the deceptions shield kite it close to Gahlran so that when you shoot the green hand he slams his axe down and hits the deception.

How To Kill Gahlran

Once the deception is dead, both of Gahlran’s hands will turn Green. Shoot both of them to damage him. Once the hands are done the face will light Green. You will shoot the face next. This is going to be the damage phase.

Remember that you have to do this on all the platforms so you will have to do this three times. You need to coordinate with your team in order to pull that off. The highlighted body part will rotate so shoot the Green part.

Damage Gahlran as much as possible. If you are not able to finish him off in the first round you can do it in the second phase but the deceptions will come back and you will have to take down its shield, shoot the hand and make Gahlran kill the deception with the axe all over again.
