Captain Falcon Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Captain Falcon Guide details everything that you need to know about Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Captain Falcon is a very good fighter as he deals a decent of damage as well as moves around the arena quickly. His running speed is one of the fastest in the entire game. He can also jump from walls and his jump speed and fast fall trajectory are also fast. His combos deal high amounts of damage.

His main strength is ground combat but he is no slouch in the air as well. His Dash attack is exceptionally fast and his grab damage is also very high. While going against Captain Falcon, defense is very important because his attacks deal a lot of damage. He has two recovery specials if he is knocked off from the stage which allow him to recover quickly.

Attacks

We have detailed Captain Falcon’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide lists all Captain Falcons attacks which can be performed while he is on the ground.

Neutral Attacks

Captain Falcon has four neutral attacks. First two will deal 1.5 damage each while the third will deal 0.6xnumber of attacks and 3 damage with fists and 5 with Captain’s knee. The basic neutral combo for Captain Falcon starts with a quick punch followed by another punch and then a volley of punches or a knee kick which will launch enemies in the sky.

This combo is highly effective and works great against edge-guards and ledge climbs. The landing speed is also fast so the attacks will be fast and will give very less time for your opponents to think about a counter. At the end, punches will deliver knockback as well while the knee kick will launch enemies in the air.

Dash Attack

The Dash Attack will deal 10 damage to the enemies. For this attack, Captain Falcon will dash into the enemies with his shoulder protruding at the front. This will launch the enemies high in the air and throw them back. This attack when timed right can also interrupt other air attacks.

Defensive Attacks

Captain Falcon’s Ledge attack will deal 10 damage while his Wake-up attack when faceup will deal 6 damage and wake-up attack with facedown will deal 7 damage.

Tilts

You have three tilt attacks at your disposal with Captain Falcon. We have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

It deals 9 damage. For this attack, Captain Falcon will spin and land a side kick to the opponent dealing massive knockback damage to them. This is great for getting some distance between you and an aggressive opponent.

Up Tilt

It deals 11 damage. For this attack, Captain Falcon will raise his leg up and then move it down in a heavy attack in front of him hitting enemies in the head. This will slam the enemies in the ground and bounce them back in the air. You can also use this attack against enemies in the air and ledge jumps.

Down Tilt

It deals 10 damage. Captain Slow goes down on the ground and later sweeps his leg in a powerful move that can knock back enemies and send them flying in the air. This attack is slower when compared to other attacks but the damage dealt and knockback is decent enough. Also if someone blocks it, this move is totally useless.

Smashes

Captain Falcon can perform three Smash attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Smash

It deals 20 damage. Captain Falcon’s side smash is a powerful and explosive backfist attack that will launch enemies in the air and away from Captain himself. It is a fast attack and best to use against enemies running towards you. Nothing says hello more than a mighty punch in the face when someone is running towards you.

Up Smash

It deals 12 and 14 damage. This is a dual spinning heel kick attack where Captain Falcon will land two kicks and launch enemies in the air if not there already. The first kick can also work as a ground attack since it is launched horizontally initially. However, it can be blocked by enemies if they use their shield as the right time.

Down Smash

It deals 14 damage. This attack is good for crowd control. Captain will slam the ground with a powerful toe kick in front of him which is followed by another back kick. This is a great move to push back enemies right in front of you or stopping someone rolling here and there.

Grabs

Captain Falcon’s normal grab attack deals 1.3 damage. The front and back throw both deal 7.5 damage while the Up and Down throws deal 9 and 6 damage respectively. His normal attack will deliver a powerful punch which will knock away enemies. Back throw is a powerful kick that ensures that enemies are sent to sky flying high.

Up throw is a simple high palm punch which is excellent for a follow-up juggle combo. The best out of these is the down throw followed by a neutral air combo. You can even add more combos at the end if you are quick enough with the attacks.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide details all of Captain Falcon’s Aerial Attacks.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 4 and 6 damage. This is a double spin kick combo attack where the first kick deals 4 damage and the second deals 6 damage. This attack is great for setting up enemies for juggling. It features very decent speed which one of the best things about this specific attack. You can also perform multiple neutral air attacks in the same jump as well.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 22 damage. This is a powerful knee attack which will knock enemies back in the air and deals massive damage to them. During the whole attack, the knee will be kept ahead in an attacking position which can hit enemies throughout the jump. The jump is not too long so don’t expect to cover the whole stage in one jump.

You can also cancel the move to add more combos or any other move after initiating the kick. Enemies in the air can also be juggled with some combos after this attack. Captain Falcon will take some time to get back in action since the recovery time is a little higher for this attack.

Back Air Attack

It deals 13 damage. For this attack, Captain Falcon will turn around and land a powerful punch attack and the enemies behind him in the air. This will knock them back to the ground if the enemies are in the air. You can also use it multiple times in the same jump. This is an excellent air-to-ground attack.

Up Air Attack

It deals 10 damage. In the air, Captain Falcon will spin and perform a flip kick above him in the form of an arc which will throw enemies in the air further up setting them up for a perfect juggling combo. This attack is very fast and has low recovery time so you can easily launch enemies further up and follow up with a powerful combo of your choice.

Down Air Attack

It deals 14 damage. Captain Falcon will straighten his legs and dive down towards the ground and land with a powerful impact. This attack requires precision and accuracy because the hit box is quite small for this attack but the damage output is high so make it count.

Special Moves

Captain Falcon has four Special Moves. We have detailed them.

Neutral Special – Falcon Punch

It deals 25 damage normally and 28 if hit while changing direction. This is Captain Falcon’s signature punch. The attack takes a little time to initiate but the damage dealt makes up for it. You cannot control Captain Falcon during this attack so make sure that you time it right when the enemy is right in front of you.

Even if the enemy uses his shield, the shield will take a decent amount of damage. You can only control the initial direction of the punch, once Captain Falcon gets going, you cannot change the direction or stop him. At the beginning of the attack, hold the opposite direction and the punch will be directed in that direction.

Side Special – Raptor Boost

It deals 10 damage.  In this attack, Captain Falcon will charge and land a powerful uppercut attack to the enemy launching them in the air. This is excellent for setting up enemies for follow up attacks. You can also use this attack in the air to punch enemies downwards with force. This attack is weak is missed or when shielded since you will be open for an attack by your opponents.

Up Special – Falcon Dive

It deals 5 and 13 damage. Captain Falcon will fly in the air in an explosion, grab the first enemy that comes in contact with him and throws them away. While going up, you can control Captain’s direction a little bit although this is not much. This can also be considered as a grab move because he grabs the enemy and then throws them away.

If you miss enemies, they can deal some serious damage to you because you will be in the air and helpless if they get you in a good juggle position. You can combine this with Raptor Boost for a perfect save if you are off the stage and this also confuses enemies who are blocking your way.

Down Special – Falcon Kick

It deals 15 damage to enemies. Captain Falcon will engulf himself in flames and fly forwards while having his leg out in the form of a kick. This attack is a very powerful attack as it deals damage as well as send the enemies flying back in the air. This can be performed in the air as well.

However, despite being powerful this is also the worst attack if it gets blocked by a shield enemy. The recovery time is very big and the enemies will be at your throat before you even start it. This attack’s effectiveness is highly dependent on your timing.

Final Smash – Blue Falcon

When the meter is full, unleash Blue Falcon where he will jump in front of Captain Falcon and hit all enemies in front of him. Enemies hit by Blue Falcon will land in a racetrack where an F-Zero machine will run them down.
