Diddy Kong Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Diddy Kong Guide details everything that you need to know about Diddy Kong in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Diddy Kong is a very agile fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He can use his enemy’s movement to his own advantage and can perform a number of quick attacks depending on the enemy’s position. His best moves include setting up Banana Peel traps around the map. You can trap your enemies, grapple them and easily knock them back using Diddy Kong’s agility.

His ledge control with the banana peel traps are very good and very players will be able to recover after such an attack. He is an excellent juggler and boasts some really neat combo attacks as well. Attacks have less recovery time which allow you to follow up nearly every attack with a follow up attack. Diddy Kong can Crouch Walk, Wall Jump and Wall Cling as well.

Attacks

We have detailed Diddy Kong’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide details all Diddy Kong attacks which can be performed on the ground.

Neutral Attacks

Diddy Kong’s neutral combo has three hits. The first hit will deal 2 damage, the second will deal 1.5 damage and the last hit will deal 4 damage along with launching enemies away. Diddy Kong will use his right hand to slap enemies two times and finishes up the attack with a powerful roundhouse that knocks the enemies away. This is a short range attack so you will need to get up close and personal with your enemies.

Dash Attack

Diddy’s Dash Attack will land three attacks in quick succession with first two dealing 2 damage each and the finisher dealing 3 damage. This is a cartwheel attack where Diddy will sprint into his enemies and then deal a cartwheel attack with three hits. At the end, your enemies will be flying in the sky. This gives Diddy a chance to follow up with another attack or combo.

Defensive Attacks

Diddy’s ledge attack will deal 9 damage and wake-up attack will deal 7 damage to enemies.

Tilts

Diddy can perform three tilt attacks on his enemies. We have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

It deals 10 damage. Diddy will stand on one leg and use both his hands to deliver a powerful punch attack to enemies standing in the front. This is a great move to surprise your pursuers. The attack will blast them away in the air.

Up Tilt

It deals 6 damage. Diddy will slap his hand in the air above him in the form of an arc. The arc will cover the entire air above Diddy. It starts from the front and goes all the way to the back so enemies at the front and the back both can be hit with the attack. This will knock back enemies allowing you to follow up with a combo. If blocked, this attack is useless.

Down Tilt

It deals 5.5 damage. Diddy will attack his enemy’s feet with his hands standing in front of him with this attack. This is a very quick attack and has low recovery time so even if the attack is blocked, you can quickly jump back in action and perform another attack move. This is an excellent harassing attack and poking at enemy shields.

Smashes

Diddy can perform three Smash attacks and we have detailed them below.

Side Smash Attack

It deals 5 and 11 damage. Diddy will jump and put his fist to use and launch a powerful slap at the enemies which is quickly followed by a powerful backfist. This attack will launch the enemies in the air. Diddy will be in the air after the first hit so enemies cannot hit him with low attacks after this.

Diddy’s luck can change quickly if both hits are shielded because Diddy is left helpless after the block. Enemies will try their best to counter this attack and try to exploit your weakness so you will need to time this attack right.

Up Smash

It deals 2.5 damage for first two hits and then 6 damage for the third hit. This is yet again a three hit combo and Diddy will get creative with the moves for this attack. The first hit is a upward palm slap followed by a cartwheel kick in the air while the last hit will be a powerful uppercut punch which will launch enemies high in the air above Diddy. The speed of this attack is very fast and equally bad if it gets shielded. You will be left hanging in the perfect place for a counterattack combo.

Down Smash

It deals 12 damage. Diddy Kong’s signature move is nickel and he will sweep enemies in the air with his feet and them slap them in the back. This will launch them in the air away from Diddy. The recovery from this attack is pretty high so you will need to time the attack right.

Grabs

Diddy’s normal grab attack will deal 1 damage. Front throw will deal 9 damage and Back throw will deal 12 damage. Up throw will deal 5 damage while the Down throw will deal 7 damage to the enemies along with a follow up combo positioning. Diddy’s range and speed for all grab attacks are pretty fast.

Up throw can launch enemies in the air while Down throw can set up enemies in a nice position for a follow up combo. His grabs are good and can be really troublesome if Diddy is against you. If you are playing with his, use them as much as possible to annoy your enemies. A tip while playing against him is that you can easily shuffle out of the up air follow-up attack if you time it right.

Aerial Attacks

Diddy can perform the following attacks while he is in the air.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 6 damage. In the air, Diddy will perform a cartwheel attack with his four limbs stretched out. He will keep spinning and if you hit an enemy at the ground, they will be launched in the air prime for a follow up attack.

The recovery time for this attack is also not too long so you can use this attack as much as you like for setting up enemies for a potential attack. However, watch out for anti-air attacks as they can shield-grab you from air and also land some more attack as well.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 10 damage. This is a dual-kick attack in the air. Diddy will extend his legs in the air and perform a powerful kick with both his legs and enemies hit by it are launched back in the air. However, the recovery time is much higher than other attacks so you will be vulnerable during this time. The attack itself deals a decent amount of damage to enemies. Use this to knock enemies off the stage.

Back Air Attack

It deals 9 damage. Diddy attacks at the back with his foot in a fast donkey kick. This attack is pretty fast and there is practically no recovery time.

Up Air Attack

It deals 6 damage. Diddy will use the same kick attack in the air above him in the form of an arc. The arc is pretty wide and will knock back all enemies who gets hit by it. Airborne enemies are in excellent location for a follow up attack. This is Diddy’s best attack if you want to juggle some enemies. The recovery time is also low making it a very good attack.

Down Air Attack

It deals 13 damage. Diddy Kong will join both hands, form a double-fisted blow and land in on the ground in a powerful attack. Enemies hit by the attack will be sent flying back and most probably off the stage. On the way down, anyone who comes in contact with the attack will be meteor striked and thrown back as well. This is also a good recovery move.

Special Attacks

Diddy Kong has four Special Attacks. We have detailed them below.

Neutral Special – Peanut Popgun

The thrown peanut deals 2 + 1.4-13 damage while the backfire deals 23 damage. Diddy will draw his Peanut Popgun and fire a big peanut at the enemy in front of him. If you charge the attack, the speed of the peanut will increase and the peanut will deal more damage. Distance is not affected by charging.

Low charged attacks will deal more damage but they are excellent at annoying enemies far from you. If you charge the gun too much, it will cause an explosion that will deal damage to the enemies standing near you. This explosion deals high amount of damage to enemies. If you shield during the charging process, the attack will be cancelled and you can choose another attack instead.

Side Special – Monkey Flip

The kick will deal 10-14 damage, grab attack will deal 1xnumber of hits, the grab leap deals 8 damage while the grab slash deals 10 damage. Diddy will jump towards the enemy and mount the first enemy that comes in its path. After mounting him, Diddy will start slashing at them and then end the slashing with either a stomp attack or a slash attack which will send them flying in the air.

You can grab any grounded or airborne enemies with this attack. You can use this attack is various ways such as closing the distance between enemies, launching them in the air or perform a throw that cannot be resisted with the shield. However the recovery time is great so you will need to time it right and try to land the complete combo to make the most out of it.

Up Special – Rocketbarrel Boost

Midflight hit will deal 10 damage while the ending explosion will deal 18 damage. Diddy will wear a jetpack and launch in the sky. The two barrels fueling the jetpack will explode if Diddy comes in contact with a solid surface. During his wild flight, he will continue to hit enemies throughout the stage until jet pack hits something. This is a great recovery move as well and you use it all the time to recover from attacks and counterattacks.

If the attacks in the air, Diddy King will fall down to the ground helplessly which can be exploited by eagle-eyed players or those players who will bait you to end your attack midair. Watch out and always try to land the attack on a solid surface. If Diddy is hit, barrels will fly off on their own and Diddy will fall down during the attack.

Down Special – Banana Peel

While airborne, this attack will deal 4-5 damage to enemies. This is a very simple attack yet super effective. Diddy will throw a banana peel behind him which will cause enemies to slip on it and fall down. Enemies will slip and fall down helplessly and you can move in for some combos and attacks.

Diddy is immune himself if he has thrown the peel but enemies can also pick up and throw the peels to turn them against you. If Diddy walks over a peel thrown by the enemy, he will slip and fall down. You can use it at the ledges to keep enemies from recovering using the ledge making their life more miserable. Even throwing the peel will slightly damage the enemies or force them to use their shield. One of the best attacks in the game.

Final Smash – Hyper Rocketbarrel

When the Final Smash meter is full, Diddy Kong will unleash a massive attack after multiplying himself and flying around the stage. After targeting enemies, Diddy will charge at them and hit them. Once the attack end, Diddy will fly to the enemy who received the most damage and make them fly in the air.
