Dr. Mario Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Dr. Mario Guide details everything that you need to know about Dr. Mario in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Dr. Mario is a little heavier and his kicks and stomps pack more punch as well. This in return affects his jumps which go less high and he returns to the ground quickly as well. Nearly all attacks of Dr. Mario pack more punch than Mario and some of the moves despite appearing similar to Mario are in fact more powerful and a little different in results. Dr. Mario can wall jump as well.

Attacks

We have detailed Dr. Mario’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

We have detailed Dr. Mario’s attacks below which can be performed while he is on the ground.

Neutral Attacks

Mario’s neutral attack combo has three hits. The first hit deals 2.9 damage, second hit deals 1.8 damage while the final hit will deal 4.7 damage. This is a simple three hit combo where Dr. Mario will punch and kick the enemies in front of him. The speed of first punch is insanely fast which makes it a great attack for catching enemies off guard.

Dash Attack

Dr. Mario’s Dash Attack deals 11.5 damage. Dr. Mario will slide towards his enemies and kick them in the feet. Kicking them during the slide will also lift them in the air above Mario setting them up for a nice juggle combo.

Defensive Attacks

Dr. Mario’s defensive attacks are Ledge attack and Wake-up attacks. The ledge attack deals 10 damage while the faceup and facedown wake up attack will deal 7 damage.

Tilts

Dr. Mario has three tilt attacks. We have detailed them below. Side tilt, Up tilt and Down Tilt.

Side Tilt

It performs 8.2 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will perform a spinning kick at his front. You can slightly adjust the angle of this kick with the control stick. The attack has decent reach and will deal decent damage to enemies as well.

Up Tilt

It performs 7.4 damage. Dr. Mario will perform a powerful uppercut which will spin Dr. Mario around. This is a low range attack and is only focused in the air above Dr. Mario. The attack is super effective in the air and will launch enemies flying high in the air. Follow up with any juggle combo of your choice.

Down Tilt

It performs 8.2 damage. Dr. Mario will perform a powerful kick in front of him aiming at enemy’s feet. This will launch them in the air giving you a good reason to land some combos. The highest damage is dealt closest to Dr. Mario.

Smash Attacks

We have detailed Dr. Mario’s three Smash attacks below.

Side Smash

It deals 20.9-29.3 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will bend backwards for a little time and then charge the attack to land a powerful punch at his front. This attack has good range and deals maximum damage to enemies that are much closer to Dr. Mario rather than being a little far but still getting hit by the attack. You can slightly aim the attack during the charging phase.

Up Smash

It deals 16.5-23 damage. This is a powerful headbutt attack where Dr. Mario will bend his head back first and then go in for the headbutt. The attack can also deal damage at the back due to Dr. Mario’s mirror. This also adds up to the total damage dealt by the headbutt. The attack also has the ability to hit targets above Mario and the final hit is at the front.

So this attack works more in the form of an arc rather than one sided hit. This works excellent if you want to clear out the enemies around Dr. Mario in one hit and get some space. The enemies hit by the attack are lifted high in the air and Dr. Mario can even set their direction of going in the air with a front headbutt or a back headbutt.

Down Smash

It deals 11.8-16.5 and 14.1-19.8 damage. This is two step attack. One at the front and one at the back with the back one being more powerful. Mario will bend down and quickly attack enemies with his legs first at the back and then at front. This is a great attack for attacking both sides with a single attack and dealing a decent amount of damage to both sides.

Grabs

Dr. Mario’s basic grab attack will deal 1.5 damage and throwing them at the front will deal 9.4 damage. Throwing them at the back deals 12.9 damage while throwing them up deals 8.2 damage. Finally, the Down throw deals 5.8 damage to enemies along with the initial grab attack damage.

The grabbing range for Dr. Mario is very small since his arms are tiny. This is countered by the fact that attacking speed is very high. You will need to dash in the enemies and then grab them in order to make sure that they are in range. The most powerful grab throw is backwards and also the greatest distance thrown is backwards.

Aerial Attacks

The following attacks are performed while Dr. Mario is in the air.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 9.4 damage. Dr. Mario will jump in the air and use his leg to deal a powerful strike to the enemy. This kick has good knockback and damage as well. This is one of the best air attacks considering the damage and speed of the attack. If the enemies do not fly away from the kick, you can quickly follow up with another combo.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 17.6 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will swing in the air and perform a powerful hook punch. The highest damage is at the fist. This is a quick attack and Dr. Mario recovers quickly as well. You will need to time this attack right to make sure that the fist is landed on the enemy so that maximum damage is dealt.

Back Air Attack

It deals 14.1 damage. Using both his legs, Dr. Mario will jump back and kick the enemy with his legs stretched out. This attack has excellent damage and equally good knockback. For this attack, you must make sure that your back is towards the enemy, otherwise you will not be able to land this attack on them properly.

Up Air Attack

It deals 10.2 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will flip backwards and kick as well during the flip. The attack is most effective at his front and in the air above him. At the back, the attack is not very effective unless the enemy is right next to Dr. Mario. This attack is excellent to chase down enemies coming from the air at you. Most of the times, you will be able to land a powerful juggle attack after this move.

Down Air Attack

It deals 14.1 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will stretch both of his legs downwards and drop to the ground in a much powerful smash with his legs. This attack has meteor smash effect and enemies who come in the attack’s direction before Mario lands will get meteor smash type hit. Launched enemies can be juggled easily. The air distance depends on total damage dealt to enemies. The attack has a sight air recovery delay.

Special Attacks

Dr. Mario comes with his own special attacks which we have detailed below.

Neutral Special – Megavitamins

It deals 5.9 damage on close range and 4.7 damage as the distance increases. Dr. Mario will throw a big megavitamins pill will will travel the stage bouncing up and down. This is an excellent ranged attack and can be great for stopping enemies from joining back in fight from ledges making their recovery much harder. They can be swatted away or reflected back.

Side Special – Super Sheet

It deals 8.2 damage. For this attack, Dr. Mario will attack with a sheet in front of himself. This sheet covers a great distance and the whipping up also covers the area above Dr. Mario for a brief time. Enemies hit by the sheet are turned around which means they will end up facing the opposite direction after hitting the sheet.

Up Special – Super Punch Jump

It deals 14.1 damage. Dr. Mario will jump high in the air with a powerful uppercut attack. The highest damage is dealt at the start of the attack and as Dr. Mario goes up in the air, the attack is halved. This attack has a great recovery time because after the uppercut, Dr. Mario will fall down to the ground and will be unable to attack again until he lands on the ground. You will also need precision to land this attack.

Down Special – Dr. Tornado

It deals 1.9×6 and 3.5 damage to enemies. It is a two hit combo attack. For this attack, Dr. Mario will whip up a tornado which can be steered left or right to deal damage to enemies hit by it. At the end of the attack, Dr. Mario will land a powerful hit to enemies which will launch them in the air. During the tornado, you can spam the special button to make Dr. Mario fly higher in the air.

This however can be performed only once during the attack. You can move him left or right as many times but lifting up in the air works only once. However, if the Tornado lands on the ground and touches it, you can make Dr. Mario lift in the air again using the special button.

Final Smash – Doctor Finale

Unleash the Final Smash once the meter is full. During this attack, Dr. Mario will open a small bag of prescriptions. Input the later commands correctly which will appear on the screen which will launch two gigantic pills across the stage on the enemies. Enemies hit by the pills will be carried further with the pills where they will be blended between the two getting massive damage.
