Introduction

King K. Rool is the lord of Kremlings and is big. Despite being big, he is not slow at all. His attacks pack quite a punch naturally since he is big in size but they are fairly quick and the recovery time is good as well for most of the attacks. His big belly acts like a pillow and is excellent at absorbing damage making it difficult to make him fly.

Apart from defence, King K. Rool uses its belly more offense as well. Some of its attacks will involve his belly so it is an important tool in his arsenal. King K. Rool does not rely on his belly for attacks only. He comes with his signature items as well such as Blunderbuss and Crownerang and his trusty Propellerpack with all his goodies in it.

It is not a very fast but it is not slow either considering King K. Rool’s size and volume. King K. Rool will first hit with his palm then use his claw to swipe and then end the attack with a powerful kick knocking enemies away from him.

Dash Attack

King K. Rool’s dash attack deals 15 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will use his super belly to attack enemies while dashing towards them. The attack ends with a belly flop which can also deal damage to enemies if you manage to hit them with the flop as well. After the dashing attack, King K. Rool will take some to recover from the attack.

Defensive Attacks

Tilt Attacks

King K. Rool has three Tilt attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 13 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will extend his arms to his back during which his belly will absorb nearly all the attacks. After it, King K. Rool will slap at his enemies in the front with a powerful clap.

The maximum damage is at the point of the clap so enemies stuck between the hands are dealt the most damage. You can use the control stick to aim the direction of the clap. It can be aimed slightly up or down. The slow speed of the clap is countered by the absorption of attacks by his belly.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 11.5 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will land a powerful uppercut in his front which will deal damage to enemies standing at the front and above him. The attack is good for countering attacks both at the front and at the top. It can hit enemies who are close to King K. Rool and sometime enemies a little far will not be hit enemies. The attack is quick as well.

Down Tilt

It deals 13 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will stomp the ground with all his force which will create a large AoE in front of him due to the sheer force of the impact. As King K. Rool is bringing his foot down, enemies can be hit at this point as well. The highest damage is at the impact site.

Smash Attacks

King K. Rool has three Smash attack. We have detailed them below.

Side Smash

It deals 19-26.6 damage. King K. Rool will land a really powerful boxing glove attack in front of him which will knock enemies back with the immense force. You can slightly adjust the aim of the punch with the control stick. The attack also does not take too long to land so it’s a safe bet against fast enemies as well.

Up Smash

It deals 15-21 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will shoot in the air with a powerful headbutt attack. This attack is also very fast so you can use it for easy air control above you. While heading up, King K. Rool’s belly will be armored so it will deflect most attacks automatically. Enemies who hit his head on the way up will be knocked away from King K. Rool.

Once at the top of the launch, King K. Rool will flop forwards and land towards the ground. Enemies hit during this belly flop will also receive damage. You will need to make sure that you do not miss the attack because King K. Rool will take a lot of time to recover from the attack.

Down Smash

It deals 18-25.2 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will jump up in the air and land a powerful slam attack on the ground with his arms and legs stretched out. This is a very powerful smash and enemies hit by the attack with be knocked away from King K. Rool. His belly will be absorbing most of the attacks while he is coming down. This attack is good for clearing out enemies around King K. Rool and giving him some space.

Grabs

King K. Rool’s grab attack deals 1.6 damage while throwing them in front will deal 10 damage to enemies and bounces them off the ground. Back throw deals 11 damage while up throw will deal 16 damage while setting enemies in a good juggle position. Down throw will quickly plant enemies to the ground while dealing them 5 damage.

King K. Rool’s grab speed is average but the damage dealt to enemies is pretty strong. His best throw is up where the enemies are dealt exceptional damage and allows you to follow up with a juggle combo afterwards. Enemies thrown down are planted to the ground unable to move giving you ample time to bash them with a more powerful attack.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide lists all the attacks which King K. Rool can perform in the air.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 12 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will use his armored belly once again to land a powerful slam attack to enemies. The most damage is dealt early in the attack. Since the attack lasts for quite a decent amount of time, the damage diminishes as the attack is carried on.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 14 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will use his powerful kicks to land an attack to enemies where enemies will be launched away from King K. Rool after getting hit. King K. Rool will need some time to recover after landing the attack. Also once the attack has been landed, King K. Rool will land to the ground before he can perform another attack.

Back Air Attack

It deals 19 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will land a powerful attack with his fist on his back. This deals great damage and massive knockback to enemies hit by the attack. Enemies up or behind can be hit with this powerful attack.

The attack takes a little time to land but once it lands, the damage done is massive. Another weak aspect of this attack is the range however this is great for hitting enemies sneaking up on you from behind.

Up Air Attack

It deals 14 damage to enemies. This is one of King K. Rool fastest attacks as he zooms up in the air landing a powerful skull slam to enemies above him. During this ascend, his belly is armored so he will not take any additional damage and will absorb all of the attacks coming at his belly. Enemies will be sent flying but King K. Rool will need some time to recover from the attack.

Down Air Attack

It deals 9 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will kick straight down to the ground. His belly will be armored preventing damage from the front side. Enemies below King K. Rool will be hit by his powerful leg smash and knocked down to the ground. The attack however has a small hitbox and also requires precision to hit them.

Special Attacks

King K. Rool has four special attacks detailed below.

Neutral Special – Blunderbuss

It deals 13 damage to enemies. King K. Rool will quickly swap out his crown for a pirate hat and take out his blunderbuss to deal some pain. He will fire a cannonball from it which will hit the enemies with force if they are much far away from King K. Rool himself. Depending on the distance, you can use the Blunderbuss in various ways.

If the enemies are close to King K. Rool, you can suck the cannonball again back into the cannon and shoot it again for additional damage. You can also use the control stick to aim the shooting direction of the cannonball. Cannonballs hit enemies and then bounce off from them. You can fire only one cannonball at one time.

Hold the special button if you want to suck the cannonball back in and refire it at the enemies. You can also use the blunderbuss to suck in enemies and then shoot them at enemies to deal damage to both of them. Enemies hit by enemies take 18 damage and this is a great attack for crowd control.

Side Special – Crownerang

It deals 8 damage to enemies when thrown and 6 again if enemies come in its way on its way back. King K. Rool will use his crown like a boomerang which will hit enemies and then come back to deal damage to enemies. While thrown, it will deal more damage to enemies while it is going towards enemies.

On the way back, the damage is slightly reduced but it is still decent. You will need to catch the crown again to put it back on your head. If you are near the crown when it comes back, King K. Rool will automatically grab it and put it on your head. Otherwise it will fall on the ground and you will need to pick it back up.

If it falls from where it cannot be recovered, it will respawn after sometime in King K. Rool’s feet. You will not be able to use the attack until the crown is back on your head. Since the crown deals damage in both directions, you can use it in different ways to set up enemies for attacks and also annoying enemies who are trying to get back on the ledge.

Up Special – Propellerpack

This attack deals 3×6 damage to enemies. This is a movement attack mostly but you can also deal some damage with it. King K. Rool will bring out two blades and will start gliding up in the air. You can move King K. Rool during the flight left or right. After some time, King K. Rool will drop back to the ground.

The distance King K. Rool covers while going up is exceptional. For dealing damage, you will need to get the blades closer to enemies as only they are damage dealers in this move. Other than that, your enemies will not receive damage from anything else.

Down Special – Gut Check

King K. Rool will use his mighty belly and make it completely invulnerable for this attack. This is a solely defense move but King K. Rool will absorb attacks and projectiles and send damage back to enemies with a 1.5x multiplier added to them. While his belly is flashing, he is completely invulnerable.

Projectiles sent back have double speed and damage so enemies have very less time to react to them coming back. You can flick the control stick to the other side to block attacks from the other side as well after deflecting an attack. You can also block an attack from one side and release it on the other side using the control stick.

Final Smash – Blast-o-Matic

For his Final Smash, King K. Rool will lunge at the enemies like a cannonball and mark all of them. Everyone will be dealt severe collateral damage at the end of the attack when a giant cannon emerges and releases a powerful shockwave attack.
