Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Pit Guide

Below we have listed all the attacks that are specific and special to Pit. Refer to each attack for a better understanding of how Pit combats in the stage.

Introduction

Pit and Dark Pit are very balanced fighters in the game that come with unique weapons in the battle stage. Pit is an above average mobility fighter, who can quadruple jump with his wings.

Pit is also very simple to play with and is easy to master. He comes with decent attacks that don’t extend vulnerable options of his body and an easy to use move set. His main strength is his Palutena Bow, though mastering his projectiles can take some practice, once you are accustomed to them, you will be able to curve arrows and mix up your offense.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide contains all the grounded attacks that Pit can perform while on the stage.

Neutral Attacks

Pit has three Neutral Attacks, where the first two deal 2 damage each, and the third Neutral attack deals 4 damage.

Pit uses his blow blades to perform a swift right handed slash, quickly changing into a similar left handed slash, to finally finish with either a rapid stab attack combo or a heavy launching attack.

Defensive Attacks

Pit has three Defensive Attacks. The Ledge attack deals 9 damage, while both his Wake-up attacks deal 7 damage.

Dash Attack

Pit’s Dash attack deals 11 damage, where he goes for a slash that is best used against an opponent’s landing lag. This attack can be used aggressively to create openings as it is relatively safe.

Smashes

Pit has three smash attacks.

Side Smash

This attack deals 5, 10 damage, where Pit performs two powerful slashes in front of him with his bow. The first hit stuns the opponent, while the second hit launches them far away.

This attack has long reach and large hitboxes, where it can be used to attack mistimed air dodges and predictable rolls.

Up Smash

This attack deals 3, 2, 8 damage, where Pit delivers a three hit anti-air attack sequence directed above his head, launching foes into the sky. Up Smash is an excellent punishment attack against air dodges and ledge rolls.

Down Smash

This attack deals 12 damage where Pit sweeps the floor with the Palutena Bow at the ground in front of him, followed by a rear sweep that clears out opponents from the area.

This attack is incredibly fast and has low ending lag, thus making it quick to go for this attack and less likely to be punished for it. Since this covers the area behind you, it is also a flexible attack if you want to defend against ground based rushes.

Tilts

Pit has three Tilt Attacks.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 10 damage, where Pit extends his blade forward by lunging towards the enemy in front, knocking them away. This attack deals extra damage, and is good to deter ground based enemies, though high damage is only guaranteed if you hit the victim with the tip of the blade.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 4, 5 damage, where Pit delivers a double kick attack that pops enemies up in the air. This attack can be followed with multiple attacks and combos.

This attack is best used against airborne enemies coming in for an attack, or enemies that are above you on a platform. The move also has a short duration allowing you to safely back off if your opponent dodges the attack in the first place.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 6 damage, where Pit kneels down and sweeps at the opponent’s legs with one of his bow blades, sending the opponent into the air. Once you have hit the opponent, it can be set up with follow up attacks such as a dash in grab or a dash attack.

Grabs

Pit has five Grab Attacks. The first grab deals 1.3 damage. The Front and Back throw deal 10 and 8 damage respectively. The Up throw deals 11 damage, and the Down Throw deals 6 damage.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide will cover all the Aerial attacks that Pit has.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 0.7×7, 4.5 damage. In this attack Pit twirls the Palutena Bow in midair, striking enemies several times before knocking them back.

This attack is great for troubling ledge recovering opponents, where if you can make a read on where the opponent is going to recover to, you can stick out a relatively safe neutral air attack to punish

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 2.5, 2.5, 6 damage. In this attack pit delivers a multi hit attack by spinning the blade directly in front of him. The attack is not great with smaller opponents but if you fast fall on top of smaller targets by short hopping towards them.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 12 damage. In this attack Pit thrusts the sharp points of his Palutena Bow halves behind him, striking aerial foes and knocking them up. Back air is much stronger than forward air, but takes more precision. Like many back air attacks, Pit’s is great for dealing shield damage because of how safe and damaging it is. Incorporating proper back air usage into your offense may take practice, particularly off of dashes.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 1.5×4, 5 damage. In this attack spins the Palutena blades like a helicopter above him, cutting into airborne enemies several times before popping them upward. This attack works great against airborne enemies that are trying to descend down to safety.

Down Air Attack

This attack deals 10 damage, where Pit uses half of his bow to attack enemies below him with a wide angled slash. This is a great out of shield option for you if you want to evade aggressive enemies around you.

Special Moves (Pit)

Pit has 4 special moves. All of them are detailed below.

Neutral Special – Dark Pit

This attack deals 3.2 (8.6 at max charge) damage, where Pit fires a chargeable arrow with a controlled trajectory. It can also be fired vertically or horizontally. If you fire the arrow upward, it can curved left or right. Meanwhile, firing horizontally allows you to curve it upwards or downwards.

This is a great projectile based attack that is for harassing opponents and zoning them out. Though mastering the bow requires practice and can take time to hit accurately. Since it has great flexibility and mid flight control mechanic, it is the best projectile based edge guarding tool in the game.

Side Special – Upperdash Arm

This attack deals 11 damage, where Pit dashes forward and delivers an uppercut that launches foes high into the sky. Pit’s Upperdash Arm launches foes much higher with a sharper vertical angle than Dark Pit’s Electroshock Arm, but deals slightly less damage.

During the dash, this special move also deflects projectiles. If executed in midair, it packs less punch as a launcher, but leaves you less vulnerable.

Up Special (Pit/Dark Pit) – Power of Flight

In this attack both Pit or Dark Pit soar through the air as an air dash that can be redirected with the control input. This is a recovery option that leaves you vulnerable as you descend from the air, so you have to be careful not only in your positioning, but with your opponent’s possible retaliatory moves.

Down Special (Pit/Dark Pit) – Guardian Orbitars

In this attack, Pit or Dark Pit both shield in front and the back to reflect any incoming projectiles back to their source. These are limited armor shield that breaks after a certain amount of damage. Once the shield is broke, you can not use it again until at least 10 seconds.

This attack is great for edge guarding against opponents that rely solely on projectiles to recover.

Special Moves (Dark Pit)

Neutral Special – Silver Bow

This attack deals 5.5 (14 at max charge) damage, where Dark Pit fires an arrow filled with darkness. These arrows are more powerful that Pit’s arrows, but are influenced muss less by midflight inputs, though they can still be slightly directed.

Side Special – Electroshock Arm

This attack deals 12 damage where Dark Pit charges in front with a weapon that launches opponents directly upward. This attack is effective in knocking out enemies near the ledge, while also deflecting projectiles while he dashes forward.

Final Smash (Pit) – Lightning Chariot

Pit boards the Lightning Chariot and targets opponents with a reticle before charging forward and launching any opponents he hits.

Final Smash (Dark Pit) – Dark Pit Staff

Dark Pit uses his staff to launch opponents with a high-speed horizontal blast that goes straight through obstacles. It can hit multiple foes in a row, but only the first feels its full force.
