Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Robin Guide

Below we have listed all the attacks that are specific and special to Robin. Refer to each attack for a better understanding of how Robin combats in the stage.

Introduction

Robin comes in the game with a lot of attacks and spells, some even powerful than the other fighter and their abilities. With so much power advantage, the only drawback is that the uses are limited to his powers.

Robins starts the match with a Bronze Sword, where after a certain period a Levin Sword is accessible to Robin. Levin Sword provides him with extra range, damage, and other advantages over the Bronze Sword

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide contains all the grounded attacks that Robin can perform while on the stage.

Neutral Attacks

Robin has three Neutral attacks that can be varied. The first is two are an upward slash followed by a backhanded slash from his sword, dealing 1.5 and 2 damage respectively. The following attack after the can be varied depending of which attack you prefer. The wind attack deals 0.7xN, 2 damage, while the fire attack deals 5 damage.

Defensive Attacks

Robin has three Defensive attacks. The Ledge attack deals 9 damage, while the faceup Wake-up and the facedown Wake-up attack both deal 7 damage.

Dash Attack

This attack deals 10 damage, where Robin extends his Bronze Sword toward the opponent. It has average start up speed and has a knockback effect against victims. It launches enemies high enough that does not allow for you to follow up with combos.

Smashes

Robin has three smash attacks.

Side Smash

This attack deals 9 damage with Bronze Sword, and 16 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin performs a heavy forward thrust with his sword that blasts enemies away at a long distance. Depending on which sword he has, the Bronze Sword has lower range.

Both the Bronze and Levin Swords have high start up times, making this a tough option to use. It also has a lot of shield knockback that leaves you at a major disadvantage by giving your enemy the chance to dash and hit or grab you.

So this attack is best used if you can predict your opponents ledge recovery or air dodge.

Up Smash

This attack deals 8 damage with Bronze Sword, and 15 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin spins his sword that launches opponents high into the air. This attack is stronger than his Up Tilt, but can leave you at risk if dodged. Its best used to poke enemies standing on platforms above you.

Down Smash

This attack deals 9.6 damage with Bronze Sword, and 15 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin slams his sword into the ground in front. This attack launches enemies high in the sky. If you hit the ground with the Levin Sword, it has an added launching hitbox effect near the ground.

This attack deals massive shield damage, while its secondary hit can be used to punish mistakes made by opponents. Mistakes like mistimed rolls and ledge recoveries can be hit with this attack, potentially knocking out victims.

Tilts

Robin has three Tilt Attacks.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 7.5 damage, where Robin leans forward to slash in front of him. This attack does not have an arc above in anyway so this cant be used as an anti-air.

This attack should be uses less especially considering how good Robin’s down tilt and dash grabs are.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 6 damage, where Robin swipes his Bronze Sword with a jump in the air, hitting anyone above him.

This attack is a decent anti-air and against grounded opponents it can be chained with a combo with another up tilt at lower percentage victims.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 6 damage, where Robin leans down low and quickly strikes at the opponent’s feet with the Bronze Sword causing them to lose their footing for a second.

This attack is quite fast and can be used to defend yourself from aggressive enemies. It works great as a follow up after you cancel an attack like forward air.

Grabs

Robin has five Grab attacks. The first grab deals 1.5 damage. The Front and Back throw deal 8 and 11 damage respectively. The Up throw deals 9 damage, while the Down throw deals 6 damage.

Robins Up throw launches enemies in the sky. His Down throw is your main damage source off a grab where it can combo into up air attack from low to mid percentage ranges.

The front and back throws are used to knock out opponents who are at higher percentages. Back throw has more throwing distance but deals less damage.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide will cover all the Aerial attacks that Robin has.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 6.9 damage with Bronze Sword, and 12.5 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin produces two slashes, one downward in front of him, followed by a read slash behind him.

This attack can be used for a lot of things. You can knock out enemies off the ledge, damage shields safely.

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 7.5 damage with Bronze Sword, and 7.5 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin produces an aerial uppercut with his sword, that sends opponents flying away when hit. The Levin Sword has more power with this attack, while the Bronze Sword has considerably less range.

This attack can be good to spacing out, using aggressively and defensively, or you can use it in combos.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 9 damage with Bronze Sword, and 9 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin turns around and thrusts his sword behind him, that blasts enemies away. Again, using the Levin Sword has more range than the Bronze Sword in this attack.

While you are better of using Air attack in most situations, the Back attack has more potential to knock out enemies with lower percentages. It is also great for using as a edge guarding tool, or to extend an aerial attack with enemies behind you.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 7.8 damage with Bronze Sword, and 7.8 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin swipes up above him, that launches opponents in the air. This works best with the Levin Sword, while the Bronze Sword has considerably low damage and range on it.

This attack is your main anti-air attack for airborne enemies. It has potential to start up combos, where you can mix up with an Up smash or an Up Tilt

Down Air Attack

This attack deals 7.2 damage with Bronze Sword, and 7.2 damage with Levin Sword. In this attack, Robin powers his sword below him, that sends opponents flying when hit.

This attack is very slow compared to other thrust type attacks. Make sure you are less vulnerable and are sure your opponent is at higher percentage for it to work successfully.

Special Moves

Robin has 4 special moves. All of them are detailed below.

Neutral Special –  Thunder

This attack can be used in a variety of ways because of the energy that Robin summons. The energy charge can be powered in four different tiers of attacks. The attacks are listed below:

Thunder: this is a high velocity projectile that deals 5.5 damage, while requiring no charge fire.

Elthunder: this projectile deals 11 damage, where you need to charge at least a quarter of a second to fire. It offers more damage and range compared to Thunder, and can be used to knockout opponents at higher percentages off the ledge.

Arcthunder: this projectile deals 6, 2.4×4, 8 damage and takes 1.3 seconds to charge. This projectile is a burst of electricity that begins slow but accelerates fast. When it, the projectile turns into an X-shaped effect that hurts opponents caught in it.

Thoron: this projectile deals 2.6×7 damage and takes two seconds to charge. This is a beam that goes along the whole stage, dealing damage to anyone caught in the blast, and knocking out enemies.

Side Special – Arcfire

This attack deals 2, 1.3×6, 4 damage. In this attack, Robin produces a fireball spell, that turns into a fire pillar upon impact with enemy.

This is a great edge guarding attack, and can leave opponents for a knockout if they fail to get back on the stage by limiting their recovery options.

Up Special – Elwind

This attack deals 7, 7 damage. In this attack, Robin calls upon a magical wind that propels him upward, dealing damage to any victim above, and placing him in the air twice.

This can also be used as a recovery option, but should be used cautiously as doesn’t give Robin any mobility

Down Special – Nosferatu

This attack deals 2×9 damage. In this attack, Robin summons a dark curse that drains enemy health. Not only does it drain their health, but recovers Robins health instead. However, this special can only be used three times in a match.

Final Smash – Pair Up

In the Final Smash, Chrom dashes forward, and if he lands a hit, Robin joins him for a flawless combination of attacks that launches the opponent. After the attack, the Levin Sword and each Tome become fully charged. Make sure to hit an opponent with that initial dash.
