Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Rosalina & Luma Guide

Below we have listed all the attacks that are specific and special to Rosalina & Luma. Refer to each attack for a better understanding of how Rosalina & Luma combat in the stage.

Introduction

Rosalina and Luma are a unique pair of fighters that combat together in sync to attack enemies. Luma is the star shaped partner of Rosalina who has its own separate attacks, own health, own hitboxes.

The pair’s fighting style focuses on Luma acting as a barrier between opponents and Rosalina, making it frustrating for opponents for having to deal with two targets. This changes the whole dynamics of the fight for opponents having to approach two targets instead of the conventional one target.

Rosalina deals the most damage out of her attack of the two, while Luma’s attack have more of a launching and knockback effect on opponents.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide contains all the grounded attacks that Rosalina & Luma can perform while on the stage.

Neutral Attacks

Rosalina has 4 Neutral Attacks. The first two deal 2 damage each, while the third deals 0.3xN, 2.5 damage with a launching effect, or it can be a launching attack that deals 3 damage.

In this attack, Rosalina strikes opponents with her want twice, following up with either a launching attack or a knocking attack. If you decide to launch the enemy away, the third flick of the wand by Rosalina gets Luma ready to perform an uppercut and launch the enemy into the air.

If there comes a chance for them to attack and knock Rosalina during the neutral attack sequence,  you can still continue the attack with Luma.

Defensive Attacks

Rosalina and Luma have 2 Defensive Attacks. The ledge attack deals 9 damage, while the Wake-up attack deals 7 damage.

Dash Attack

Rosalina and Luma’s dash attack deals 3, 4 / 3 damage, where both the characters dive headfirst into the enemy with a hit that launches enemies away. This attack starts up very fast, but when she dives, her hitbox becomes thin which allows Rosalina to dodge most air attacks.

Smashes

Rosalina & Luma have three smash attacks.

Side Smash

This attack deals 12 / 7 damage. In this attack, Luma delivers a mighty thrust punch, while Rosalina uses her palms to thrust a blast out in front of her. This attack is extremely risky if shielded, so its best to use it as a anti- ledge recovery option.

Up Smash

This attack deals 12 / 6 damage. In this attack, both Rosalina and Luma perform a backflip attack simultaneously, that knocks opponents in the air. This attack is a good anti-air option and can be used immediately after you block enemies from attacking behind you.

Down Smash

This attack 7 / 4 damage. In this attack, Luma delivers a spinning roundhouse kick targeting behind and then in the front, while Rosalina performs a leg attack that knocks enemies both behind and in front of her. The attack is riskier for Rosalina if shielded, but Luma is less at risk with this attack.

This attack is best used if Luma is in front of Rosalina, which allows more coverage area in front and in the middle if there is an opponent between both the characters.

Tilts

Rosalina & Luma have three Tilt Attacks.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 7.5 / 4.5 damage. In this attack, Rosalina delivers a spinning kick attack in front of her, while Luma performs a roundhouse kick that launches enemies away.

This attack is much slower to start with if compared to neutral attack, but it has a decent strike to throw if you need the extra range to punish an enemy or to stuff their approach. Keep in mind though ii can leave both Rosalina and Luma very vulnerable if this attack is shielded.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 10 / 8 damage. In this attack Luma performs an Street Fighter styled uppercut that launches opponents vertically into the air, while Rosaline fires a halo directly above her. Luma’s uppercut has a high launching power, that makes it a powerful finisher.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 5.5 / 3.5 damage. In this attack, Luma performs a headbutt, while Rosalina performs a dropkick attack at her victim. If shielded, this attack can make it risky for Rosalina. However, if you hit opponents with mid percentage damage, it can knock enemies down.

Grabs

Rosalina and Luma both have 5 Grab Attacks. The first grab deals 1.3 damage. The Front throw deals 9 damage, while the Back throw deals 11 damage. The Up throw deals 7 damage, and the down throw deals 9 damage.

Rosalina’s grab offers average range and speed, but is one of her most important attacks because of her defensive playstyle. Front throw is used to toss foes offstage or to set up her potent dashing attack/grab mix-up. Since Rosalina’s dashing attack and dashing grab are visually similar, it can be difficult for your opponent to discern between the two. Back throw is a conventional rear toss best used when your back is to a ledge.

The Up throw launches enemies upward which can lead to combos, while Down throw bounces enemy up and farther away than Up throw. It deals more damage but does not provide any chance of combos to follow up.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide will cover all the Aerial attacks that Rosalina & Luma has.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 10 / 3 damage. In this attack Rosalina twirls her wand that pops the enemies up, while Luma launches the enemies that have popped up by Rosalina into the sky.

This attack has low landing lag and covers a large area around Rosalina. Grounded enemies hit by this attack are almost guaranteed to have a combo or follow up attack waiting for them.

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 1×5, 6 / 3 damage. In this attack, Luma performs a head but attack, while Rosalina produces a somersault kick that extends with cosmic energy to strike enemies multiple times, and then launching them away.

This attack is a superb air to air and air to ground attack, but also unsafe if shielded. This attack is best to harass enemies above you, whether on a platform or floating above you offstage.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 11 / 4 damage. In this attack both Rosalina and Luma perform a thrust kick with their legs. This attack deals more damage than the rest of their air attacks, but has a narrow hit effect and its active window is short. It also has a high lag in comparison to other air attacks, which means you can’t quickly throw out multiple of these attacks in succession.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 10 / 4 damage. In this attack produces a halo right above her while Luma performs an uppercut attack above. Rosalina’s halo trajectory is strictly locked to a set distance away from her positioning, meaning she can direct where the halo goes as she travels through the air. This unique trajectory property, along with the halo being a separate projectile, makes up air attack an amazing juggle-trapping tool.

As long as Rosalina is beneath a falling opponent, she retains a strong advantage, as the enemy is forced to deal with her halo attacks. If you condition your opponent to expect an up air halo attack, you can inevitably bait out an air dodge that you can punish with up tilt or up smash

Down Air Attack

This attack deals 7 /5 damage. In this attack, Rosalina now throws her halo below while Luma drives its foot down with an aerial stomp attack that launches opponents in the air with incredible power.

Rosalina’s halo can be used to deter enemies below her while she is descending and wants to clear out the area for her to land.

Meanwhile, Luma’s down attack has so much launch power that you can potentially knockout offstage opponents with if you deploy the star over a ledge.

Special Moves

Rosalina & Luma has 4 special moves. All of them are detailed below.

Neutral Special – Luma Shot

This attack deals 5 to 16 damage. In this attack. Rosalina flings Luma forward, boosting Luma’s attack power and locking it to a set distance away from Rosalina. When Luma is deployed away from Rosalina, it deals an additional 50% damage and always faces the direction of a nearby opponent, so if Luma is behind an enemy, it turns around to attack them.

Luma Shot is your primary offensive maneuver and should be used to force action from a defensive foe. While you’re generally playing defense as Rosalina and Luma, occasionally you need to rack up damage and mount a comeback, and Luma Shot is one of the best ways to do so.

Side Special – Star Bits

This attack deals 3×3 damage. In this attack, Luma the star fires three Star Bits in the direction that you input your special. This attack is only best to apply pressure against enemies, but is laggy and leaves you at a disadvantage if shielded.

This attack is best used as a edge guarding tool to trouble offstage recovering enemies. And it also works great if Luma is positioned a bit away of the stage.

Up Special – Launch Star

This is more of an offstage recovery move than being an attack. In this move, Rosaline flies in the air while Luma follows with midair jumps. Though the move leaves Rosalina into an helpless state of falling back on the stage, you can still use Luma to be controlled and attack opponents to push them away if they come to punish you.

Down Special – Gravitational Pull

This attack has varying damage. In this attack, Rosaline uses her cosmic powers to pull in nearby opponents, and then forcing them into the air around her. This attack also nullifies all the projectiles coming towards Rosalina.

This attack is best used against projectiles to deter them away from her, rendering them useless for opponents who depend on projectiles.

Final Smash – Grand Star

In the final smash of the duo, a Grand Star shoots out stars while also pulling enemies who are hit. When the sequence is about to end, Grand Star explodes. During the attack, Rosalina and Luma are free to roam around and continue bashing enemies however they please, also giving them a chance to land extra attacks.
