Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sheik Guide

Below we have listed all the attacks that are specific and special to Sheik. Refer to each attack for a better understanding of how Sheik combats in the stage. Her pokes are almost always safe from retaliatory attacks.

But Sheik is not only quick, her versatile toolkit allows her to be played in a number of ways. She is good in baiting and punishing opponents, while also pressuring with her Needle Storm and Burst Grenade, that forces opponents to make mistakes.

Although Sheik’s attacks deal low damage, but this allows less knockback, and more follow up opportunities with combos.

Introduction

Sheik is an assassin with lightning fast attacks, spectacular ground speed, and incredible aerial mobility.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide contains all the grounded attacks that Sheik can perform while on the stage.

Neutral Attacks

Sheik has three Neutral attacks. The first is a fast jab that deals 2 damage, and this jab is so quick it can be repeated as a combo itself. Sheik’s jabs can be used both defensively and offensively.

If you follow her jabs with a neutral air, forward air and tilt attack, this will allow you to keep offensive pressure safely. The only thing she lacks in her jabs is that she does not have enough range, but this can be forgiven because of her speed that allows her to jab anytime she pleases.

Defensive Attacks

Sheik has two Defensive Attacks. Her Ledge attack deals a 9 damage, while her Wake-up attack deals 7 damage.

Dash Attack

Sheik uses her high velocity dash momentum to carry out a horizontal slashing attack with her fingertips that knocks enemies in the air dealing 7 damage. This attack knocks enemies far away from you, which leaves out any possibility of connecting combos

This attack should be reserved for when an opponent is retreating and they have their backs towards you. Otherwise its better to use a dash with a side or down tilt, or even a jab.

Smashes

Sheik has three smash attacks.

Side Smash

This attack deals 5, 8 damage where Sheik delivers a heavy side kick at the opponent,, then transitions into a spinning flying kick that sends the opponent flying.

Side Smash can be used to punish an opponent’s high lag moves, and air dodges. And its high blasting power makes it strong for finishing off enemies near the edge of the stage.

Up Smash

This attack deals 15 damage, where Sheik raises her arms towards the side and slashes back down to her side knocking enemies back and in front. This attack deals the most damage, but can be shielded and is high risk.

This attack is a strong anti-air, as  descending opponent comes down on you with an attack, you are most likely to beat them out if you challenge their attack with a well-timed up smash.

Down Smash

This attack deals 4, 6 damage, where Sheik spins on her back and performs a spinning kick attack that launches enemies far away. This attack is highly risky if it gets shielded, however it works great if there are multiple enemies around you and want to knock them back.

Tilts

Sheik has three Tilt Attacks.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 3 damage. In this attack, Sheik performs a slashing upward kick that pops the enemy up if they are hit by it. This is the best attack to continue with combos, as this pops the enemy just enough for you to deal a good amount of follow up attacks.

With opponents at lower percentages, your aim should be to side tilt them into a little pop up and then follow up with the forward air attack, which in turn leads to many many more possibilities of combos.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 3, 4 damage, where Sheik extends her heel above her, then after a short pause, drives it back down, knocking enemies away. This attack can be used to set up and extend combos.

You can also use this attack as an anti-air against enemies coming down from directly above you, then follow up with more attacks.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 4.5 damage. In this attack, in a low position Sheik sweeps opponents off the feet leading to potential follow up attack. The tip of the tilt knocks opponents vertically up, while the inner portions of Sheik’s legs pops them up at a slight away angle.

Although this attack is safe and quick, its only disadvantage is that it is beaten by how good of a poking option Side Tilt is. Nevertheless, this attack deals more damage, is slightly faster, and has low vulnerability during  the attack thanks to her low profile sweeping action.

Grabs

Sheik has five Grab Attacks. Her grab deals 1 damage. Her Front and Back Throw deal 7 damage each. Finally her Up and Down throws both deal 6 damage.

Sheik’s grab suffers from having one of the shortest ranges in the game, but her incredible dash speed makes up for these shortcomings. All of Sheik’s throws launch the enemy vertically into the air (even her forward and back throws), making them effective for juggle-trapping foes and less effective for instant side-blast-zone knockouts.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide will cover all the Aerial attacks that Sheik has.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 6 damage, where Sheik delivers a kick that makes it an exceptional air to ground and air to air attack. However, its hitbox doesn’t stay out that long, which is where you can mix up with deep forward air attacks with early neutral air attack.

This attack is an aggressive option but riskier than using forward air attack. If it gets shielded, it can be punished with a shield grab as soon as you land. But you can make it much safer by crossing over the enemy and landing on top of their head with Sheik’s rear leg hit box.

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 4.5 damage, where Sheik perform s slash with her hand that arcs directly in front of her and ends in a slight downward angle. Knocking enemies up for a potential follow up.

This attack is a versatile attack that is safe to throw out in most situations, thanks to its low air landing lag. You can use it as a air to air poke, and air to ground attack, or even extend and finish combos.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 9.5 damage, where Sheik produces s thrust with her kick towards the back, knocking enemies away. This is a primary edge guarding tool of Sheik. It can also be used to stop aggressive enemies chasing you  as you back away.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 1×3, 4 damage, where Sheik performs an angled upside down spinning attach that launches enemies upward into the sky.  This is a solid attack used to finish opponents near the upper blast zone. Its narrow, vertical attack range can make it a little hard to hit with unless you send your opponent into the air with a vertical launch.

Down Air Attack

This attack deals 10, 2 damage, where Sheik halts in the air, and dives down with a forceful kick attack, driving her weight into the ground. When Sheikh lands, this causes s small eruption that launches opponents.

This attack is Sheiks riskiest attack, down air is difficult to use without being punished for it. It leaves you vulnerable if shielded and has a significant amount of landing lag.

Special Moves

Sheik has 4 special moves. All of them are detailed below.

Neutral Special – Needle Storm

This attack deals 1.5xN (6 max) damage. In this attack, Sheik loads up throwing needles between her fingers, and throws then directly in front, piercing opponents. If she throws the needles from the air, they can be redirected to a downward angle. The close the needle hit from the throw, the higher the damage is dealt to the opponent.

Before the needles are thrown, Sheik has to load the needles in between her fingers. Sheik loads five needles which each take a third of a second to load. The whole set of five needles can take under 2 seconds, after which you can throw all them in a Needle Storm.

Needle Storm can be canceled into a shield, jump or dodge, and needle release, allowing you to keep your stored needle load. This attack is a long range high speed attach that deals more damage, forcing action from the enemy. Although it is too fast to use as a combo started or as cover for a follow up offense, it is excellent for dishing out quick shield damage and keeping stage control.

Side Special – Burst Grenade

This attack deals 1 in vacuum, 12.6 in explosion damage. In this attack, Sheik throws a grenade, attach to a chain, towards the enemy. After a full second, she pulls the pin that is attached to the chain in order to detonate the grenade. The grenade explosion is special in a way that it pulls the opponent in its gravity before detonating to send the opponents flying.

Burst Grenade can be picked up and thrown by anyone, especially is Sheik has been distracted from detonating them. However, the grenade does not explode, by deals enough damage and hitstun to be used as a projectile.

The burst grenade can also be used as a edge guarding tool as it has a good knockback amount, and potential to finish off enemies with higher percentages. All in all, it is a risky projectile to throw haphazardly, due to its laggy animation

Up Special – Vanish

This attack deals 12, 5 damage. In this attack, Sheik drops a bomb at her position and disappears, then reappears behind another damaging explosion.

Vanish is one of the best recovery options in the game. Sheik is the only fighter who can bypass the momentary vulnerable period right when a fighter grasps a ledge, before they become intangible while hanging.

Down Special – Bouncing Fish

This attack deals 11 damage, where Sheik performs a backfill through the air toward the enemy and strikes them with a double heel kick, bouncing off her opponent into another unique flip kick. The trajectory of Bouncing Fish can be altered left of right. You can trick opponents with a Bouncing Fish feint by holding the opposite direction as soon as you leave the ground.

After hitting with the firs Bouncing Fish attack, if you immediately cancel the bounce off jump with the kick attack, you can effectively reduce your landing lag. This is a strong edge guarding tool for attacking offstage enemies since it extends your effective horizontal reach considerably. For example, after launching an opponent off the side of the stage, you can go for a dashing forward hop into forward air attack, then Bouncing Fish farther into its follow up kick attack, then you can return to the stage with your double jump and Vanish.

If Sheik is hit out of her Bouncing Fish while airborne, she can’t use the attack again until touching ground or reaching a ledge.

Final Smash – Sheikah Dance

Sheik charges forward and strikes an opponent in her path. Upon being hit, the opponent is surrounded by darkness, and Sheik unleashes multiple quick attacks. The final attack can strike other opponents as well.
