The AMD Gonzalo processor has been leaked and from the engineering sample number, we can find out about certain specifications that would have us believe that his processor could power the upcoming Xbox Scarlett and PS5 next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
The engineering sample number of the AMD Gonzalo processor is 2G16002CE8JA2_32/10/10_13E9. The 2 means that this is the 2nd version. This means that it is a revision and much closer to release. The G could stand for gaming keeping in mind that D stands for desktop and S stands for server. The next 2 digitals, 16 and the 32 at the end stand for the clocks speeds. The AMD Gonzalo processor will have a 1.6 GHz base clock and 3.2 GHz boost clock.
Remember that this is an engineering sample so the end product can have higher clock speeds. If this is indeed meant to power upcoming consoles then the numbers are not that bad keeping in mind that the Xbox One S and X run at 1.75 GHz and 2.3 GHz. While the base clock is lower the boost clock is much higher. Jaguar cores are not all that power efficient but these will most likely be based on AMD Zen 2 architecture and will offer better power consumption and efficiency.
The 8 represents that the AMD Gonzalo processor will come with 8 cores which is not something new. The current generation consoles also have the same number of cores. The E is supposed to be the slot but this is the first time that we are seeing an E, M corresponds to the desktop AM4 and V means SP3. This could specific to upcoming consoles but at this point, it is hard to differentiate the tech that AMD is developing for itself and the hardware that it is developing for Sony and Microsoft.
The 10_13E9 is supposed to be the graphics core and reports claim that this could be Navi lite. Talking about graphics solution that AMD has, Polaris is too old to use in next-generation consoles, Vega as not successful but AMD Navi is around the corner and we might get AMD Navi powered graphics cards in the middle of 2019.
If AMD Navi is ready alongside AMD Zen 2 then it is possible that this will be the hardware for the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Scarlet next generations consoles. All this is speculation at this point so do take this with a grain of salt. Mike Ybarra did just tease an Xbox roadmap so it is possible that we will be able to learn more soon. We will keep you updated regarding the matter, so stay tuned for more information regarding the matter.
Let us know what you think about this AMD Gonzalo processor and whether or not you think it could power the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
