Combat Guide – Far Cry New Dawn
Our Far Cry New Dawn Combat Guide details everything that you need to know about combat in Far Cry New Dawn.
Understanding Weapon Wheel
Your Weapon Wheel is a crucial menu where you will equip and manage all your weapons. This is a quick menu which shows you all the equipped weapons and also allows you to craft the throwables weapons. In the center, you will find all your equipped weapons which is divided in different segments.
The top three slots are your main weapon slots. At first, only one is unlocked and you have to purchase two perks Well-Armed and Heavily Armed to unlock the other two slots. Both of these slots can equip two more main weapons so after unlocking all slots, you can equip three different weapons.
The slot below your first main weapon is your fists. Switch to this if you want to use your fists for combat. In the slot right opposite to the fists is your secondary weapon which mostly holds pistols and other secondary weapon of your choice. Apart from that, you can also choose and equip throwables from your weapon wheel.
You must get used to how to weapon wheel works as quickly as possible because you do not want to go in any battle unequipped or using a weapon that is nearly out of ammo. The weapon wheel is your best friend while managing weapons and ammo.
Craft Special Ammunition
There is a lot of different types of special ammunition that you can craft in Far Cry New Dawn. These are not just fancy ammo types with special effects but they are actually effective against certain types of enemies and we highly recommend that you craft special ammo types to get the edge over the enemies.
You can craft Incendiary Ammo, Explosive Ammo and Armor-Piercing Ammo at any workbench or Shop. You can choose the required ammo type by choosing the weapon in your weapon wheel and then pressing R1 to change the ammo type being used by the gun. Always use special ammo types against harder enemies to kill them quickly. You can pick between all four ammo types right from the weapon wheel. Make sure your weapon supports special ammo use if you cannot equip a certain type of ammo on your gun.
Use Guns for Hire
Guns for Hire are your friends or animals that will help you in combat. They are very useful in certain situations so always make sure that you take the right one with you for the job. Not every Gun for Hire has the same abilities so you must use the right one each time. You do not want to end up in the fight with the wrong Guns for Hire support.
You can further improve their efficiency by training them at the Training Camp located at Prosperity. This will make them more efficient in combat, make them survive longer in combat and use better equipment to deal more damage. You can also issue them different command in battle such as stay at a location or follow you making them ideal for different strategies.
Unlock New Perks
Perks are essential to increase your combat effectiveness in Far Cry New Dawn. These Perks will not only make you better but also increase your stats so that you can carry more guns and ammo. Some of the perks will make your gun handling more efficient such as increasing your reload speed and allowing you to takedown heavier enemies with your bare hands.
Always purchase new perks and use the newly acquired abilities to deal with enemies more efficiently. We highly recommend that you purchase Well-Armed and Heavily Armed perks right at start because they will allow you to carry a third and fourth weapon in your inventory. Melee Combat
Melee combat will come in handy when you run out of ammo. You will use your fists to deal some justice to the highwaymen. You can perform light attack and heavy attack. Press the fire button with your fists equipped to land a quick punch. Keep pressing to land a flurry of punches on the enemies.
If you have a gun equipped, pressing quick melee/takedown button will punch the enemy while with fists equipped, you will be able to kick enemies with the same button. Use the kick and punch combo to quickly take down most enemies. Melee is ineffective against heavily armored enemies unless you have the takedown perks unlocked and you stealth kill them.
Pressing the fire button will land a quick punch but if you want to land a heavier hit, keep pressing the button for some time and charge up the punch. You can also cancel the heavy attack. This is more powerful hit and will deal a great amount of damage to enemies. If you lock on the enemies, you can also dodge and block enemy attacks. Purchase Perks to make your fists more powerful.
Stealth Combat
Stealth combat is the most effective combat in Far Cry New Dawn. If you manage to take out entire outpost guards in stealth, you are awarded bonus Ehtanol. Also stealth kills are instant kills and missions are very easy if you complete them in stealth. They might difficult but in stealth, few enemies spawn in missions as they do not raise alarms if they do not see you.
Remain crouched while taking out enemies. You can also purchase Covert perk which will make is harder for enemies to detect you while you are sneaking and will also increase your movement speed while crouched. Enemies who are not aware of your location will have a small black bar at their top and it will increase in white color as you get close to them.
An arrow on this bar will represent the enemy’s location. Do not allow this bar to be completely filled or the enemies will become alert of your presence in the area. As long as the enemies are unaware, you can easily sneak around killing them easily. Avoid direct contact, stick to the shadows and you should be fine.
While in stealth, if you come across a group of enemies, you can throw stones to distract enemies. Distracted enemies will move to check the disturbance while you can mop up the enemies left behind alone. Always use distractions to single out enemies from groups otherwise it will be very hard to remain stealthy if you kill one enemy from behind who is with a whole group.
